Karafun and more...

Postby pierre007 » Tue Jul 08, 2008 10:15 am

We all know Karafun can playback CDG + MP3 files and it works great !
However there was the small issue with different volume levels on different mp3 files. To overcome this I "normalized" all my MP3 files (over 5000) with an audio enhancement program so output volume levels are more or less equal on every song.
Currently I'm trying to do the same with some Karaoke DVD's I have but so far without good result. I ripped the individual karaoke songs (VOB files) from the DVD, (deleted the vocal version during ripping) but audio volume differs much between songs. Does anybody know a way to "normalize" these files ? So far I've looked on the internet for Audio enhancer or Video enhancer applications but none of them can handle VOB files, unless I convert them to MPEG.
All hints, tips or tricks are welcome. If anybody has experience with these Karaoke DVD files, please share it... thanx

I did read a solution here somewhere

Basically what you will need to do is split the audio with the video. It is possible and I thought it was here somewhere, as someone wanted to place the video of a song as the background to the karafun they'd created. It may have been in the help files. Once you have split them if you prever to keep them as video files then you will need to merge them back together. I know that won't seem very helpful and for that I am really sorry, I mainly wanted to let you know it is possible and once I find the full solution I will post the reply correctly.

Extracting and Remuxing audio

Postby pierre007 » Tue Jul 08, 2008 12:25 pm

Thanks, I know of the option to extract the (AC3) audio file, and after processing re-mux it to the original VOB or MPEG but synchronisation is a big problem for Karaoke...

Well Maybe this will help a little

I recently had the video (without the audio) for a song on the KFN, and then was able to move it to the right position for the audio and it all fell into time with the video so it even looked in the background as if the stars were singing in line with the lyrics that I typed in. In theory with a video that has the lyrics on it, you can be able to move in alignment with the audio and then once your happy with the kfn you can export it to wmv or mpeg and then use any freeware software out there to convert to DVD if you so wished.

Hope that helps a little

Yep, there is a solution

Think I found the application that does the trick. TMPGEnc express can handle the VOB file (allthough they say it can't) and while converting to mpeg also adjust output volume.
This way I can play the mpeg karaoke file in Karafun.
