Audio Stuttering

Hi,
Over the past several years, I've been experiencing the same audio stuttering problem. Basically, the audio is playing fine, then it slows down (or sometimes speeds up) for a second or two. This has happened with multiple versions of the software, as well as on multiple (3) computers I have tried. It seems that its somwhat correlated to the song, but not always - meaning some songs exhibit this problem more than others, but its definitely not 100% repeatable. All the computers are running XP. Any suggestions?

Related to this, what does the slider in the options panel that goes from "quality" to "performance" actually control? Would that help?

Audio Stutter

I have suffered audio stutter. I have identified one cause.
If one slides one's mouse when double clicking on one song it is possible to select two (or more!) songs at the same time. This causes audio stutter.

I'm unsure about another reason. The same problem occurs when playing a song and having a small song screen whilst clicking the mouse onto the library screen. Perhaps this is a memory problem (limit to the graphics card) but this is only a guess. N.B. I am using a laptop LCD screen and also mirroring this via TV out at the same time (which could add to the problem). Any comments on this would be most welcome.
